Class of 1955

Dr. Richard W. Goop (Chanute, Kan.) is still doing some dental work. He mostly does dentures, but no T.E. or root canals.

Dr. Donald Yowell (Delphos, Kan.) retired in May 2009. He remarried in 1988. He spends time fishing, hunting and going to grandchildren’s ballgames.

Class of 1960

Dr. Donald S. Linhart (Mission, Kan.) is retired.

Dr. Russell Riggs (Rogers, Ark.) is retired, a full-time volunteer, and a newlywed.

Dr. Roderick A. MacDonald (Maple Ridge, B.C., Canada) is retired and still healthy. He enjoys woodworking, golfing and chauffeuring grandchildren.

Dr. Erbin E. Jones (Arlington, Texas) retired in 2006.

Dr. Frank Ferson (Salina, Kan.) retired January 1, 2009.

Dr. Theron C. Johnson (Tucsan, Ariz.) is retired.

Dr. James W. Schatz (Springfield, Mo.) retired in 2000. He enjoys volunteering and has seven grandchildren. He says that he putters around and enjoys attending basketball and baseball games. He does genealogy research and has published a book about 300 years of his father’s family.

Dr. A.P. Soldan-Els Jr. (Independence, Mo.) retired from the UMKC School of Dentistry in 1996 and is a professor emeritis. During his career he was honored as Instructor of the Year (8 years) Distinguished Teacher (9 years) and received Classes of ’94 and ’96 Teacher Award. He served as a Lt. Col. in the U.S. Army. He and his wife, Jackie, have been married for 55 years and have two children and five grandchildren.

Dr. Edward J. Lamb (Olympia, Wash.) has been retired since 1999. He is playing a lot of golf and has a hole- in-one about every other year.  He spends six months in Washington State and five to six months in Arizona at Sun City West. He RVs and does some boating to Canada and Alaska.

Classes of the 1970s

Robert C. Molinaro, DDS 1970, (Kansas City, Mo.) has two grandchildren and two more on the way in 2010.

Davis M. Freeman, DDS 1970, has been retired since 2003.

Leonard Wayne Goodin, DDS 1970, (Republic, Mo.) retired in February 2010.

Hilton Fujiuchi, DDS 1970, (Hilo, Hawaii) is still enjoying his practice and intends to practice a few more years.

Dennis Morehart, DDS 1970, (Enid, Okla.) is planning on working several more years in dentistry. He just finished his term on the LGA Council of the AGD. He and Erlene celebrated their 43rd wedding anniversary. His daughter, Tina, is a dentist in downtown Oklahoma City, Okla.

Joe Figlino, DDS 1970, (Denver, Colo.) and Sharon have two grandchildren:  Joey and Samantha.

Ron Brown, DDS 1970, (Denver, Colo.) retired from private practice in June 2007. He’s been a clinical professor at the University of Colorado School of Dental Medicine for the past two years. He’s been elected into the American College of Dentists, to the Board of Directors of the Metro Denver Society, and to be president of the International Association of Approved Basketball Officials. He still referees high school basketball.

Richard Hines, DDS 1975, (Leawood, Kan.) specializes in periodontics. He completed his residency at the VA Med Center in Leavenworth, Kan., in 1982. He completed board certification for Diplomat status in 1987. He has four children (Amy, Chris, Ryan and Lauren) and four grandchildren.

Charles J. Meyer, DDS 1975, (St. Louis, Mo.) has a private periodontics practice in St. Louis, Mo., and teaches in the GPR Program at St. John’s Mercy Med Center. He is married with four children. 

Edwin R. Schertzer, DDS 1975, (St. Louis, Mo.) practices with his son, David Schertzer (DDS ’03) and has four grandchildren. He enjoys boating and travel.

Edwin L. Wilson Jr., DDS 1975, (Norman, Okla.) retired from the University of Oklahoma College of Dentistry of Occlusion, August 1, 2008, after 31 years.

Robert G. Fox, DDS 1975, (Cape Girardeau, Mo.) proudly reports that his son, Jim, graduated from UMKC with his DDS degree in May 2010 and is joining him in practice so he can semi-retire later in 2010.
James Bourland, DDS 1978, (Clinton, Mo.) has two daughters and one son-in-law who are also dentists.

Susan Kaiser, RDH 1978, (Fulton, Mo.) reports that her husband is retired from the Dept. of Corrections. She collects painted-label soda bottles from the late 1930s to 1950s. She has been on two cruises to the Caribbean.

Classes of the 1980s

Donna K. (Davidson) Gardner, DDS 1980, (Overland Park, Kan.) and her husband, John, celebrated their 28th wedding anniversary in February 2010. They’re all well and continue to be active in their church and community. Their daughter Erin and her husband, David, are expecting twins in July 2010. Their daughter Kyle gave birth to their first grandson,Braxton Lee, in May 2008. Their son, Sean, is at UMKC as a pre-dental student.

Michael LaBoube, DDS 1980, (Knob Noster, Mo.) is serving active duty in the U.S. Air Force at Whiteman AFB, Mo.

R.J. Tippin, DDS 1980, (Newton, Kan.) and Mary Ellen Tippin are enjoying the “grandchildren season” with their four grandchildren. Three of their five children are married. R.J. thinks dentistry is still fun!

John Stone, DDS 1980, (Olathe, Kan.) reports that he is back working in the UMKC School of Dentistry.

Timothy D. Larson, DDS 1980, (St. Charles, Mo.) and Carol have been married 33 years. He is the Clinical Regional Director of Operations for Heartland Dental Care. He is still practicing, learning and now teaching.

Daniel Savitske, DDS 1980, (Fort Collins, Colo.) is retired.

Vincent Lutterbie, DDS 1980, (Marshall, Mo.) is still working with the developmentally disabled for the state of Missouri. With all of the budget cuts, he fears he could be nearing the end of this job.

William T. Kane, DDS 1980, (Dexter, Mo.) helped organize the Class of 1980’s 30-year class reunion. It was a great success!

Bruce Kaufman, DDS 1980, (Springfield, Mo.) has two sons:  one is in graduate school at the University of Arkansas and the other is at the University of Missouri-Columbia.

Mark Mosier, DDS 1985, (Clarinda, Iowa) serves as a part-time faculty member at the UMKC School of Dentistry.

Shanon T. Kirchhoff, DDS 1985, (Cape Girardeau, Mo.) is past president of the MDA. He is a member of DMORT, a federal team of forensic odontologists. He is still practicing orthodontics. He likes to travel and camp. Harley riding and scuba diving are ranked as his favorite things to do. He is married to Jennifer and has a daughter, Clara.

Classes of the 1990s

Inna Anssari, DDS 1990, (Wheeling, Ill.) is living in Long Grove with her husband and their two daughters. She’s practicing general dentistry and implantology in the office she opened 17 years ago.

Jerry Dickson, DDS 1990, (Chandler, Okla.) has added Landon, a 3-year-old boy, to the family this year.

Paul D. Mabe, DDS 1990, (Gardner, Kan.) and his wife, Yvette (DH ’91) have been married 19 years. They have two girls:  Lauren (17) and Julia (12). He has been in practice 20 years in Gardner ( They have enjoyed winters in south Florida since 2000.

Vicki Waring, DDS 1990, (Camdenton, Mo.) says there is no news, except that she practices at the Lake of the Ozarks.

Chris Buttner, DDS 1990, (Albuquerque, Ariz.) is still practicing in Albuquerque and has two beautiful children ages 8 and 11. Chris will be the Alumni Board President in 2011.

DeAun Silva Regan, DDS 1995, DH 1972, (Parkville, Mo.) is married to Dave Regan. She has four children:  sons Mike (12) and Jason (26) and daughters Carmen (28) and Rachael (30). She practices in Parkville, Mo.

Erica L. Fisher, DDS 1995, (Kansas City, Mo.) has been married for 14 years and has five children: Madison (13) Bailey (11) Morgan (7) Aaron (3) and Sam (1). She practices with her sister Kristy in the Parkville, Mo., area.

Kerin L. Burdette, DDS 1995, (Omaha, Neb.) completed advanced education in pediatric dentistry at the University of Nebraska Medical Center in June 2010.

Stephanie Altenburg, DDS 1995, (Kansas City, Mo.) bought the Barry Road Dental Office in 2004 and practices with her husband, Tim. Their boys, Jonah (15) and Lucas (11) received their black belts in Tae Kwon Do. They love to travel as a family.

Michael Rollert, DDS 1995, (Denver, Colo.) is a member of the Board of Directors of the American Dental Society of Anesthesiology. He also is a member of Atoms- Committee on Anesthesia.

Jay Joseph, DDS 1995, (Joplin, Mo.) is married to Nanci and has three children:  Stephen (9) Sophia (7) and Rocco (3). He’s been in private practice for 14 years in general dentistry.

Thomas LaMartina, DDS 1995, (Farmington, Mo.) has been married for 15 years and has three children, ages 13, 11 and 8.

Classes of the 2000s

Kaci B. Jensen, DDS 2000, (Boise, Idaho) married Kirk Jensen on Nov. 7, 2009.

Pete Spalitto, DDS 2000, (Kirkwood, Mo.) has a general practice in Des Peres, Mo. He has been in practice for five years since being discharged from the U.S. Army. His family includes his wife, Susan, and their three children:  Olivia (5) Anna (3) and Henry (7 months).

Laura Merritt Menees, DDS 2000, (Lawrence, Kan.) married Ryan Moore in 2007. Their daughter, Nico Jeanne Moore, was born in August 2007.

Jeff Barlow, DDS 2000, and Emily Barlow, DDS 2000, (Merritt Island, Fla.) are married and have two children:  Jake (3) and Addison, born Oct. 22, 2009.

Darren W. Mahaffey, DDS 2005, and Sarah L. Mahaffey, DDS 2005, (Springfield, MO) announce that Sadie Ann was born 8/31/2009. Darren was named New Dental Leader for 2009 by the MDA.

Mariah Frazier, DDS 2005, (Wichita, Kan.) and her family moved to Wichita in December 2007. They are enjoying it very much as they are close to family. They have two boys: Grant (2 ½) and Cade (1). Her husband, Lance, works as a corporate pilot, and she gets to work with Crystal Walker. In the fall of 2009, she became a board certified pediatric dentist.

Jennifer Williams Tinnel, DDS 2005, (Kansas City, Mo.) had a 9 lb. 3 oz. baby boy named John Jack on June 15, 2009.

Jamie Smiley, DDS 2005, (Overland Park, Kan.) has been married for seven years and has a two-year-old daughter named Taylor. She practices in Overland Park.

Kerri Thompson, DDS 2005, (Emporia, Kan.) has a three-year-old daughter, Regan Olivia Thompson, and another daughter born 12/29/2009.

Brett Wilson, DDS 2005, (Joplin, Mo.) completed a four-year military tour in the U.S. Army with assignments at Fort Sill, Okla., Grafenwoehr, Germany, and Iraq. He moved back to the states in August ’09 and has been practicing in Joplin since. His wife, Sara, is expecting (their first) in June.

Lori Adell, DDS 2005, (Sikeston, Mo.) gave birth to Kadison Paige September 6, 2007. Lori is an adjunct faculty member at Arizona School of Dentistry and Oral Health.

John Batson, DDS 2005, (Whispering Pines, N.C.) is completing an oral surgery residency at Womack Army Medical Center, Ft. Bragg, N.C.

Chris Leiszler, DDS 2005, (Lawrence, Kan.) started a practice in Baldwin City, Kan., just over two years ago. He and his wife, Anne-Marie, live in Lawrence. They welcomed their first child, Harrison, into the world June 1, 2009.

Thomas A. Ebersole, DDS 2007, (Parsons, Kan.) and his wife, Sadie Ebersole, RDH, BS, welcomed their first child, Alden Cash Ebersole “Ace,” into the world Sept. 12, 2009.
