About the School

Sponsored Research

Over the last decade, the research funds awarded to the UMKC School of Dentistry have increased ten-fold. This is because commercial and government organizations are attracted by the research resources available at the School. The increase in funds is directly related to the dental school’s standing in the scientific community. The School is known and recognized for its state-of-the-art facilities, testing/evaluation center, and talented, knowledgeable researchers.

The School prioritizes research, and it is part of its mission to lead the country in developing new concepts and new techniques in oral health. To stay on the forefront, the School is committed to continually upgrading its science laboratories, as well as retaining and attracting top researchers. In addition, the School offers several Academic Programs designed to encourage today’s students to become tomorrow’s researchers.
Today, and throughout the past, UMKC has benefited from the patronage of prominent sponsors for its research projects, including: National Institutes of Dental and Craniofacial Research, National Institute of Arthritis and Musculoskeletal and Skin Diseases, National Institute on Aging, Missouri Foundation for Health, Missouri Department of Health and Human Services, Missouri Life Science Research Board, University of Missouri Research Board, Kansas City Area Life Sciences Institute, American Foundation for AIDS Research,  American Association of Orthodontists Foundation,  Health Care Foundation, Reach Foundation, ALZA Corporation, Bayer Healthcare LLC, Procter & Gamble, BruxCare, Astra Pharmaceuticals, Block Drug, Oral-B-Braun, OraPharma, Bausch & Lomb and Calla-tec.
